Governor Fintiri Reaffirms Commitment to Education and Youth Development in Adamawa
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state has reiterated his administration's unwavering commitment to investing in education and youth development as part of strategic efforts to curb insecurity and drive sustainable growth across the region.
The governor made this declaration on Monday, while receiving the Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mehmet Poroy, at the Government House in Yola, the state capital.
Strengthening Educational Ties and Support
During the meeting, Governor Fintiri commended the Turkish government for its continued support to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Adamawa, particularly through the provision of essential food and non-food items, as well as its collaborative initiatives in the education sector.
He disclosed that more than 100 students from Adamawa state are currently pursuing their studies in Turkey, noting that they are performing exceptionally well academically and representing the state with distinction.
The governor added that the state government plans to sponsor additional students for overseas education while simultaneously expanding opportunities for local youths through enhanced education and skills acquisition programs.
Innovation and Entrepreneurship Initiatives
According to Governor Fintiri, the establishment of a School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Adamawa is a key component of deliberate efforts to equip young people with practical, job-ready skills that align with modern economic demands.
He called for deeper collaboration with Turkey to strengthen existing skill acquisition centres and broaden development opportunities for residents, emphasizing the importance of international partnerships in fostering sustainable progress.
Turkish Ambassador's Response and Humanitarian Efforts
In his remarks, Ambassador Poroy reaffirmed Turkey's steadfast commitment to supporting Nigeria in tackling insecurity and providing humanitarian assistance to displaced communities across the nation.
He revealed that the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency is planning to establish an office in Abuja to enhance development cooperation and expand vocational training programmes throughout Nigeria, aiming to boost local capacities and economic resilience.
The ambassador also disclosed that he recently visited the Malkohi Internally Displaced Persons camp in Adamawa, where he participated in the distribution of food relief materials to vulnerable families, underscoring Turkey's ongoing humanitarian support efforts in the region.
This meeting highlights the growing bilateral ties between Adamawa state and Turkey, focusing on education, youth empowerment, and humanitarian aid as critical pillars for long-term stability and growth.
