IMT and UNICROSS Forge Academic Alliance for Degree Top-Up Programmes

The Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) in Enugu has entered into a significant academic partnership with the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), aimed at providing top-up degree programmes and postgraduate studies for polytechnic students. This collaboration, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on Thursday, represents a pivotal step towards addressing the longstanding divide between Higher National Diploma (HND) qualifications and university degrees in Nigeria.

A Historic Milestone in Education

Prof. Gozie Ogbodo, the Rector of IMT, hailed the agreement as a historic milestone in the institution's ongoing efforts to foster academic excellence, collaboration, and human capital development. He elaborated that the partnership will enable HND certificate holders from polytechnics nationwide to upgrade their credentials to Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) and Bachelor of Arts (B.A) degrees via a structured top-up programme.

Ogbodo emphasised that this initiative is specifically designed to dismantle barriers that have historically impeded the academic and professional advancement of HND graduates. This partnership is not merely a formal agreement; it is a strategic alliance aimed at expanding opportunities and creating a seamless pathway for academic growth, he stated.

Expanding Academic Horizons

Furthermore, the collaboration will facilitate postgraduate studies across more than twenty academic disciplines, thereby enhancing research capabilities and equipping graduates with advanced skills necessary for global competitiveness. Ogbodo underscored that the programme's success will rely on mutual trust, shared values, and a steadfast commitment to upholding high academic standards.

He also praised UNICROSS for its collaborative spirit, noting that both institutions share a common vision focused on delivering quality education and making a positive societal impact.

UNICROSS's Commitment to the Initiative

Representing the Vice Chancellor of UNICROSS, Dr. Nsed Ayip Akonjom, the Director of the Center for Educational Services, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership. He conveyed the Vice Chancellor's excitement to IMT and assured that UNICROSS will dedicate the necessary attention to ensure the programme thrives.

The initiative is expected to benefit students, academic staff, and the broader Nigerian education sector by promoting inclusivity and innovation, he stressed, highlighting the potential wide-reaching positive effects of this academic alliance.
