Kano Governor Yusuf to Recruit Foreign-Trained Scholars into Critical Sectors
In a significant move to bolster development, the Kano State Government has unveiled plans to recruit newly graduated postgraduate scholars into the state civil service. This initiative aims to fill existing vacancies and address manpower deficits in critical sectors, thereby accelerating overall progress in the state.
Governor Yusuf's Assurance at Certificate Presentation
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf made this announcement while presenting academic certificates to 110 indigenes who have successfully completed their postgraduate degrees under the state's Foreign Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme. The ceremony, held at the Government House on Tuesday, marked the return of these scholars from their academic sojourns abroad.
The 110 foreign-trained postgraduate scholars specialized in fields such as engineering, pharmacy, sciences, ICT, and advanced technology. They were part of a larger group of 1,001 beneficiaries sent to India, Uganda, and Malaysia to pursue postgraduate degrees, highlighting the state's commitment to human capital development.
Investment in Human Capital Yielding Results
Governor Yusuf expressed satisfaction that his administration's investment in human capital is yielding tangible results. He emphasized that the priority placed on foreign and local postgraduate scholarships is intended to stimulate accelerated growth in several sectors of the economy currently facing manpower shortages.
"I am delighted that these beneficiaries have been exposed to global perspectives and educational standards," Yusuf stated. "This will empower them to think differently, act boldly, and solve problems creatively in our society."
Specific Recruitment Plans
According to the governor, the Kano State Government has concluded arrangements to absorb many of these graduates into the healthcare sector through the Hospitals Management Board. This follows earlier recruitment efforts, including 50 medical students from a similar programme in Cyprus and 63 postgraduate scholars from Indian universities.
Yusuf assured that the government is also ready to recruit graduates from engineering and other related fields into the mainstream of the state civil service. This step is expected to further strengthen technical and infrastructural capacity across Kano.
Encouragement to Graduates
The governor urged the fresh postgraduate graduates to apply the knowledge and skills gained during their studies abroad to solving problems, improving systems, and making life better for people in their communities. "We are gathered here to celebrate 110 of our sons and daughters who left home with hope in their hearts and have now returned with knowledge, experience, and success," he said.
He also congratulated the parents and families of the graduates for their support and assured them that the scholarship programme would continue, reflecting a long-term commitment to educational development.
Gratitude from Beneficiaries
In their votes of thanks, one of the parents, Hajiya Zuwaira Sanusi, and two of the foreign scholars, Yusuf Muhammad and Hauwa Muhammad, expressed gratitude to the governor for positively transforming their lives. They appealed to the government to sustain the scheme, enabling more children from poor families to benefit from the foreign scholarship programme.
As a token of appreciation, the students presented a book titled "A Journey of Gratitude and Discovery" along with an award in recognition of Governor Yusuf's strides in educational development.
Government's Response and Administrative Updates
In his remarks, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouk, noted that Governor Yusuf was pleased with the book and promised that the government would publish 2,000 copies for distribution to ministries, departments, agencies, and centres of learning.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Ali Haruna Makoda, revealed that the current administration has resolved all outstanding payments related to the foreign scholarship programme left by the previous administration, ensuring the initiative's sustainability and integrity.
