A graduate of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) who endured significant financial hardships, including working in a cassava factory and borrowing lab coats from classmates, has graduated with an impressive CGPA of 4.43 out of 5.0 in Computer Science. The young man, known on social media as @Marviecodes, shared his inspiring journey online.
Overcoming Financial Struggles
During his undergraduate years, @Marviecodes faced numerous challenges. He often borrowed lab coats from friends to attend practical classes because he could not afford to buy one. Additionally, he could not afford academic manuals except for the compulsory PASSA and FA packs. He even had to borrow money from a senior colleague to pay his first school fees. Despite these obstacles, he remained determined to succeed.
Working While Studying
To support himself, the graduate took on manual labor, including working in a cassava factory. He balanced these jobs with his academic responsibilities, often struggling to stay afloat. In his own words: "At one point, I took on manual labour just to stay afloat. Despite all of this, God saw me through."
Academic Achievement
@Marviecodes aimed for a first-class degree but fell short by a narrow margin of 0.07, graduating with a Second Class Upper Division. He expressed pride in his accomplishment, stating: "I graduated with a CGPA of 4.43. While I aimed for a First Class and missed it by a narrow 0.07, I am incredibly proud. Juggling academic life while building a career was never easy."
He also recalled the night before his first WAEC paper in 2020, when he had not yet balanced his fees. Despite this, he passed WAEC and JAMB on his first attempt and gained admission into his first-choice university, LAUTECH. The struggles continued, but he persevered.
