Nigerian Graduate Triumphs After Resigning Job for UNILAG Master's Degree
A Nigerian graduate, Temitope Adedoyin, has publicly celebrated the successful completion of his Master of Environmental Design (Architecture) programme at the University of Lagos (UNILAG). In a heartfelt LinkedIn post, Adedoyin revealed that he made the bold decision to resign from his previous employment to fully dedicate himself to advancing his education, despite facing skepticism from some individuals.
Overcoming Setbacks and Doubts on the Path to Academic Success
Adedoyin's academic journey began at the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), where he spent five years earning a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree. After graduating in 2019, he encountered significant challenges, including a one-year pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted his plans for immediate postgraduate studies. He applied for a master's programme at FUTA but was not offered admission after schools resumed, a disappointment he met with resilience and hope.
In 2021, he registered for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and completed his service in 2022. Following this, he secured employment with a construction company involved in building one of the world's largest covered church auditoriums. However, driven by a deep conviction to pursue academic and professional growth, Adedoyin made the difficult choice to resign from this role to focus on his studies at UNILAG.
The Demanding Yet Rewarding Experience at UNILAG
Adedoyin described his time at UNILAG as both demanding and rewarding, characterized by sleepless nights, intense academic pressure, and moments of reflection. He expressed profound gratitude to God for guiding him through the journey and acknowledged the unwavering support of his wife, parents, and siblings, whose encouragement and prayers were instrumental in his success.
In his statement, he emphasized, "This journey stands as a testament to God’s faithfulness to His Word. I began my Master of Environmental Design program after making the difficult decision to resign from my previous workplace. Some people wondered why I would make such a choice, but I knew it was time to advance my career and deepen my pursuit of knowledge."
A Proud Graduate Reflects on His Achievement
Today, Adedoyin proudly identifies as a graduate of UNILAG's Master of Environmental Design (Architecture) programme from the Department of Architecture. He highlighted how the experience connected him with remarkable lecturers, supportive colleagues, and a vibrant academic community that shaped his personal and professional development. Reflecting on his journey, he stated, "God’s timing is always the best," underscoring the value of perseverance and faith in achieving one's goals.
This story serves as an inspiring example for many Nigerians and students worldwide, demonstrating that with determination and support, it is possible to overcome obstacles and achieve academic excellence, even when it requires making significant life changes such as leaving a job to focus on education.
