A Nigerian man, Yusuf Gideon Abdulmutalib, has recounted an unusual experience he had while traveling for his post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (post-UTME) at the University of Ibadan (UI). He shared his story on LinkedIn, detailing how he navigated challenges as a first-time visitor to the western part of Nigeria.
The Night Before the Exam
Yusuf explained that he had meticulously prepared for the exam. He secured accommodation with a friend studying medicine on campus, packed an extra fully charged battery, and mentally mapped out his route. However, a quiet inner voice urged him to write down his friend's phone number before leaving. He obeyed and scribbled the number in his notepad.
Upon arriving in Ibadan, he called his friend from Iwo Road for directions. He then took a motorcycle to the university gate. Somewhere between that call and the gate, his phone was stolen. Panic set in as he found himself in an unfamiliar city with no phone, an exam the next day, and no known contacts.
Remembering the written number, he retrieved his notepad, borrowed a phone from a trader at the gate, and called his friend, who arrived within minutes. Yusuf described this as a life-saving moment, noting that his preparation and the quiet prompting helped him overcome the crisis.
Reactions on Social Media
The story triggered reactions on LinkedIn and other platforms. Ifedapo Faboya commented, “Good one, Gideon! The Holy Spirit directs and instructs us on a daily basis… Thank God for you!” Marygold Okoye added, “This is a powerful reminder that guidance often comes in quiet nudges and discernment is learning to trust and act on them.”
In a related story, the best graduating student of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) shared how he was rejected by the University of Ibadan, while another graduate staged a one-man protest over unemployment.
