NELFUND Pays ₦997.8m Tuition for 5,386 KWASU Students

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has executed a major financial intervention for students at Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete. The fund has successfully disbursed a sum of ₦997,833,250.00 to cover the academic expenses of 5,386 undergraduates at the institution.

Official Announcement and Details of Disbursement

NELFUND publicly announced this significant transaction on Monday, 15th December 2025, through a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) account. The post confirmed that Kwara State University, Malete, had received the substantial credit designated for the 2024/2025 academic session.

The fund clarified that this disbursement is specifically intended to clear tuition and all statutory charges for the beneficiaries. This move is strategically designed to alleviate financial pressure, allowing the students to concentrate fully on their academic pursuits without the distraction of unpaid fees.

University Confirms Receipt of Funds

The management of Kwara State University has formally acknowledged the receipt of the student loan payment. In a communiqué dated 17th November 2025, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, addressed a letter to the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND.

The letter stated, "This is to formally acknowledge the receipt of the sum of Nine Hundred and Ninety-Seven Million, Eight Hundred and Thirty-Three Thousand, Two Hundred and Fifty Naira (N997,833,250.00) on 6th November 2025, being payment for the disbursement of student loans to five thousand, three hundred and eighty-six (5,386) students of Kwara State University, Malete."

Implications and Future Focus

This disbursement represents a critical milestone in the Federal Government's efforts to broaden access to higher education through the student loan scheme. By settling the tuition for over five thousand students, the initiative directly tackles one of the primary barriers to university education in Nigeria.

In the official communiqué, Professor Jimoh extended the university's sincere gratitude to the Federal Government and NELFUND for the timely processing and disbursement of the funds. He emphasized that this support is a vital investment in the nation's educational sector and human capital development.

The successful execution of this payment to KWASU students is likely to boost confidence in the NELFUND scheme, potentially encouraging more eligible students from other institutions across Nigeria to apply for similar financial support in subsequent academic sessions.
