In a remarkable academic achievement, Dr. Segun Aina, a lecturer in the Department of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has been appointed a full Professor at the age of 39.

This promotion, confirmed in December 2025, positions Professor Segun Aina as one of the youngest individuals to attain the prestigious rank of professor in his field within Nigeria. The elevation is reported to be a direct result of his strong research output, demonstrated academic leadership, and consistent efforts to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical, real-world solutions.

Reacting to his appointment, Professor Aina described the milestone as humbling. Professor Aina's academic foundation is both solid and international. His educational path includes:

  • A Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, obtained in 2008.
  • A Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security from Loughborough University, completed in 2009.
  • A PhD in Digital Signal Processing, also earned from Loughborough University.

Beyond the lecture halls, Aina is recognized as a pragmatic academic and entrepreneur. His interests span critical sectors such as education technology, agriculture, and capacity building. In 2010, he co-founded Fluid Click Solutions Ltd, an IT services and engineering project management firm. His professional affiliations are extensive, including being a COREN-registered engineer and a member of the Nigerian Computer Society, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

A Commitment to Practical Impact and Mentorship

Central to Professor Aina's philosophy is the translation of academic knowledge into tangible solutions. "My lifelong commitment has been to ensure that academic knowledge does not exist in isolation, but actively solves real problems," he explained. His influence extends into governance and community service. He has served on the pioneer Governing Council of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere, Ekiti State. Furthermore, he is active in philanthropy, convening the DSA Initiative for the Support of Education and Entrepreneurship, which promotes youth enterprise development and educational access.
