Professor Oyeweso died on Tuesday morning, December 2, 2025, at the age of 64. His passing was confirmed in an official statement issued by a family member, Olawale Oyeweso. The statement revealed that the renowned historian passed away after a brief illness, which occurred despite having undergone a successful surgical procedure.
The family described his death as a great loss, noting that his wisdom and dedication to education and public service would be deeply missed. They announced that his burial rites were scheduled to take place at his country home in Ede, Osun State, by 4 pm on the same day, following Islamic funeral prayers (Solat Ashri).
