TAU Graduates 16 First Class, 40 Second Class Upper

Thomas Adewumi University (TAU) in Oko-Irese, Kwara State, has marked a significant academic milestone during its second convocation ceremony, graduating an impressive cohort of students with outstanding results.

Exceptional Academic Performance

The university celebrated the graduation of 63 students for the 2024-2025 academic session, with 16 achieving First Class honors – representing approximately 25% of the graduating class. Additionally, 40 students secured Second Class Upper Division honors, while seven graduated with Second Class Lower Division.

During the ceremony held in late November 2025, the Chancellor and founder of the institution, Eng. Johnson Adewumi, emphasized that the four-year-old university has made substantial contributions to knowledge development. He highlighted that the science-based institution has achieved international standards, equipping graduates with skills for self-reliance in their chosen careers.

Global Partnerships and Achievements

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Fransica Oladipo, revealed the institution's remarkable growth, noting that the current graduating class of 63 students represents a 142% increase compared to the 26 pioneers who graduated during the inaugural convocation the previous year.

Professor Oladipo emphasized TAU's commitment to producing globally competitive graduates, stating that students have obtained additional microcredentials from world-renowned institutions including MIT, Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, Berkeley, and Yale. The university has also facilitated certifications through partnerships with Alison UK, Google, ICAN, and the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development initiatives in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.

Through collaborations with Microsoft, IBM SkillsBuild, and MIT OpenCourseWare via the Global Campus initiative, TAU has democratized access to cutting-edge knowledge, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for technology-driven careers.

Recognition and Future Prospects

The National Universities Commission (NUC) acknowledged TAU's sustained progress in advancing quality teaching, research, innovation, and community engagement. Notably, the university achieved 100% full accreditation status across all programmes assessed during the 2023 accreditation exercise.

Professor Oladipo used the occasion to appeal to the Federal Government to include private universities in TETFund allocations to support teaching and learning activities. She reaffirmed TAU's position as Nigeria's fastest-growing STEM-i ecosystem, ranking first among the 20 private universities licensed in 2021 and fourth among the 14 universities in Kwara State.

The convocation lecture delivered by Dr. Bayo Olugbemi, CEO of First Registrar, emphasized the importance of crowdfunding as an alternative financing method for graduates pursuing entrepreneurial ventures. He encouraged the new graduates to focus on creating value rather than merely seeking employment opportunities.

Thomas Adewumi University continues to strengthen its position in Nigeria's educational landscape, demonstrating that private institutions can significantly contribute to national development through quality education and international partnerships.
