University of Ibadan Law Graduate Celebrates First-Class Degree After Scoring 290 in UTME
A young Nigerian man, Idowu Ademola, has garnered widespread attention online after proudly announcing his graduation from the University of Ibadan with a first-class degree in law. His remarkable academic journey, which began with a UTME score of 290, has inspired many across social media platforms.
Admission and Academic Journey
In an exclusive chat, Ademola detailed his path to admission. He completed his secondary education at Christs School, Ado-Ekiti, in 2019, serving as the Assistant Senior Prefect and graduating as the Best Arts Student. He first attempted the UTME in SS2, scoring 258, before achieving 290 in SS3. Initially disappointed with the score, he applied to the University of Ibadan for law after OAU lost its law accreditation. With an 83 in the PUTME and an aggregate score nearly 8 points above the cut-off, he secured admission in October 2019, though resumption was delayed until February 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and ASUU strikes.
Leadership and Extracurricular Achievements
During his time at UI, Ademola was highly active in leadership roles. He served as the Oyo State Director for the Law Students Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN), overseeing five universities as a 200/300-level student, and later became the President of his faculty in his 400-level year. He held over 20 leadership positions throughout his undergraduate studies.
Additionally, he engaged in public speaking and writing, representing the University of Ibadan in approximately 15 national competitions and winning more than 25 awards locally and internationally in these fields. He participated in over 20 societies and endeavors and traveled for an international fellowship immediately after his 500-level first semester exams.
