The University of Ibadan has granted admission to a young boy who wrote the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination multiple times in pursuit of studying Medicine and Surgery. He shared his journey on social media, detailing his scores and the challenges he faced.
Persistent Pursuit of a Dream
Prestige Oluwaseun, the determined candidate, posted on Facebook that he scored 295 in his first JAMB exam in 2020. Despite this decent score, he could not secure admission due to his Post-UTME result. He explained that his first choice was always Medicine and Surgery at the University of Ibadan, a dream he refused to abandon despite discouragement from others.
Setbacks and Disappointments
Oluwaseun recounted how he began preparing for the UI Post-UTME as early as 2021, aiming for a score of 86 out of 100 to meet the cutoff. However, he received 66, a result that left him devastated. He wrote: "I haven't cried the way I did that day. I just wanted the ground to swallow me." His parents were disappointed, and he avoided social interactions. He was subsequently transferred to the Chemistry department, but he refused to accept this outcome.
In 2022, he wrote JAMB again, targeting Obafemi Awolowo University for MBBS. He scored 317, a significant improvement, and felt confident. However, when the OAU Post-UTME results came out, he scored only 26 out of 40, shattering his hopes once more. "My phone crashed to the floor," he wrote, attributing the failure to supernatural forces.
Final Triumph
Despite the repeated failures, Oluwaseun decided to try once more. He wrote JAMB again and this time, his performance was sufficient to gain admission into the University of Ibadan to study Medicine and Surgery, as evidenced by photos he attached to his post. He concluded: "So I said...... 'One more time?'"
The story has inspired many, highlighting the importance of persistence in the face of adversity.
