University of Ibadan Pharmacy Graduate Achieves First-Class Honors and Multiple Awards

A recent graduate from the University of Ibadan has taken to social media to celebrate her remarkable academic achievements, revealing that she earned a First Class degree in Pharmacy while simultaneously building a successful fashion business.

Emotional Convocation Moment Moves Mother to Tears

The graduate, identified as Dr. Nwakile Assumpta Oluomachukwu, shared through her TikTok account @sumta_milie that her mother burst into tears during the convocation ceremony as she received multiple awards. "One week since I bagged a PharmD degree alongside several awards? Still feels surreal," she wrote in her post, adding, "God is Good!!!! (yes, my mum and I cried on the stage as I received my award??)"

From Secondary School Excellence to University Challenges

In a detailed account of her academic journey, the graduate explained that she entered university with high expectations after being one of the top students in secondary school. However, she faced significant challenges during her first year, finishing 100 level with grades close to the borderline for First Class. "That shook me," she admitted.

The COVID-19 pandemic introduced additional complications when she discovered entrepreneurship and started her fashion brand, StitchesBySumta. Balancing business and academics proved difficult, with her grades dropping to Second Class level during 200 level. "I didn't even check my 200 level result until final year so I didn't know about this drop back then, but deep down, I knew it shook me," she revealed.

Determined Comeback and Multiple Achievements

Despite facing academic setbacks including multiple resits, the determined student refused to quit. "I wanted to prove to my mum and to myself that I could be both an entrepreneur and a First Class student," she explained. Her perseverance paid off with an impressive list of achievements:

  • Three-time Best Student in Entrepreneurship
  • Most Versatile Student throughout Pharmacy School
  • Executive of the Year during her tenure as Public Relations Officer
  • Distinction in Pharmacognosy and Herbal Medicine
  • NAPA Award for Most Outstanding Student
  • First Class graduate induction

"My three brands are top-notch. I am a top-notch graduate," she declared proudly. "God is in this story. The tears and sweat were worth it."
