University of Ibadan Graduate Celebrates Academic Achievement Despite Initial Setbacks
A young Nigerian lady, Temidayo Oladoke, has captured widespread attention online after proudly announcing her graduation from the prestigious University of Ibadan (UI). In a heartfelt social media post, she revealed that she earned a second-class lower degree in Food Technology, a significant accomplishment following a tumultuous academic path that began with aspirations of becoming a medical doctor.
From Medical Dreams to an Unexpected Course
Temidayo's journey was far from straightforward. As a child, she harbored a strong desire to pursue medicine, even documenting this ambition in an article she later forgot. However, upon entering secondary school, doubts crept in. During her first term in SS1, she nearly switched to the arts stream due to fears about surviving science classes, but she ultimately decided to confront her anxieties and remain in science.
When it came time for crucial exams, her focus shifted to pharmacy, but a D grade in mathematics in her WAEC results posed a major obstacle. Unwilling to retake the exams, she combined results, which disqualified her from applying to pharmacy or medicine programs at UI. This led her to Food Technology, a course she admitted knowing nothing about when she applied.
Overcoming Academic Struggles and Self-Doubt
Despite scoring above the cutoff mark in her post-UTME and gaining admission, Temidayo faced immediate challenges. She encountered mathematics and physics—subjects she described as her "mortal enemies"—which had previously driven her toward the arts. Struggling through her first year, she finished with a third-class CGPA of 1.92 out of 4.00, leaving her devastated and eager to switch to social sciences.
Her parents encouraged her to persist, and she realized she was allowing fear to dictate her decisions. Determined to prove her capabilities, Temidayo resolved to put in maximum effort. She sacrificed friendships, denied herself pleasures, endured sleepless nights, and faced health issues, all in pursuit of academic improvement.

Through relentless dedication, Temidayo steadily improved her grades, culminating in a final CGPA of 2.66 out of 4.00, earning her a second-class lower degree.
