University of Ibadan Student Goes Viral with Honest Review of Campus Life
A student from the University of Ibadan (UI) has captured widespread attention after sharing a candid video on social media, outlining both the advantages and disadvantages of studying at the prestigious institution. The video, posted by TikTok user @maureen_eke, offers insights into the unique academic and social environment at UI, providing valuable advice for prospective students.
Student Highlights Key Aspects of UI Experience
In her viral TikTok clip, the student emphasized several points that define life at the University of Ibadan. She noted that the biggest event on campus is not a party or festival but a debate, which attracts significant student participation and excitement. Additionally, she mentioned that UI has fewer content creators compared to other universities, attributing this to the intense academic focus where students are often engrossed in their studies.
She explained: "No. 1, the biggest event in this school is not a party, it's a debate. People get excited to come for debates, people dress well, people put on lip gloss to come for debates. No. 2, you won't see all these TikTokers or content creators in UI, you won't, because everybody has books filling their head. I can count only two big content creators that are currently in UI, and I've never seen them face-to-face in my life."
Advantages and Disadvantages Detailed
The student listed one major advantage of studying at UI: the dedication of lecturers who consistently attend classes and take teaching seriously. However, she also expressed some regrets, stating she might have preferred the University of Lagos (UNILAG) for more fun. She advised against staying off-campus due to logistical challenges, such as long gaps between classes that require commuting.
"What are the good parts? Lecturers usually come to class; they take teaching seriously. I don't know why I chose to come to UI; I should have just gone to University of Lagos (UNILAG), where there is more fun. Another advice: if you're coming in, please don't stay off-campus, you won't like it. What I'm going through right now, sometimes we have a class by 8 and the next class by 3, so you'll now have to start going home," she said.
Social Media Reactions and Student Feedback
The video sparked a flurry of comments from followers, sharing their own experiences and opinions about UI. Some users praised the school's serious academic atmosphere, while others criticized aspects like hostel conditions and the campus environment.
