Seven-Year Academic Journey Culminates in Historic Achievement
Oluwadamilola Osikomaiya Adeshola has made history within her family by completing her Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communication at the prestigious University of Lagos. Her graduation on January 20, 2026, marks the culmination of a seven-year academic journey that began with her admission in 2019.
The young graduate revealed that her initial year at UNILAG proved particularly challenging. As an introvert and the first child in her family, she experienced significant loneliness and sadness during her first year on campus. "My first year at UNILAG was honestly tough," she shared in a heartfelt LinkedIn post. "As an introvert and the first child, I felt very lonely and sad. I had no one to look up to on campus except God and my family."
Overcoming Health Challenges and Finding Community
The graduate's journey was further complicated by health issues following the COVID-19 pandemic. She disclosed experiencing frequent illnesses that required numerous visits to the medical center, with one particular health concern being an ulcer that affected her wellbeing. "My first year was filled with tears and silent prayers," she recounted.
However, her situation gradually improved as she built connections with coursemates and became involved in campus activities. She expressed particular gratitude for her faculty fellowship, Communicators for Christ (CFC), which provided crucial support and community during her studies. "This family made me feel at home and helped me find my footing at the University of Lagos," she noted.
Entrepreneurial Spirit Emerges Alongside Academic Pursuits
During her second year at UNILAG, Oluwadamilola discovered her passion for writing and marketing, which led to the establishment of her bedding business, Cotton Crest. This entrepreneurial venture developed alongside her academic responsibilities, demonstrating her ability to balance multiple pursuits simultaneously.
"Along the way, I discovered my passion for writing and marketing," she explained. "In my second year, I started my bedding business, Cotton Crest, and I began to gain clarity about my goals and direction in life."
Historic Family Milestone Achieved
The graduate's academic achievement represents a significant milestone for her family, as she has become the first person to earn a bachelor's degree among the Osikomaiya family. In her celebratory post, she highlighted three key accomplishments:

"My journey at UNILAG taught me that goals are achievable; it's only a matter of time," she reflected. "If you stay consistent and trust the process, you will surely get there."
