UNIMED Ratifies Promotion of Six Academics to Professorial Cadre

The Governing Council of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) in Ondo town, Ondo State, has officially ratified the promotion of six academics to higher ranks, marking a significant milestone in the institution's commitment to academic excellence. During an extraordinary meeting held on Wednesday, the council approved the elevation of five Readers to the rank of full professors and one Senior Lecturer to associate professor.

Recognition of Academic Distinction

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe described the promotions as a testament to sustained academic excellence and meaningful contributions to society. She emphasized that the honourees have distinguished themselves through rigorous scholarship, impactful research, and dedicated service to both the university and the wider community. According to her, this elevation is not only a reward for years of hard work but also an acknowledgement of the vital role these academics play in advancing knowledge and strengthening UNIMED's reputation.

Newly Promoted Professors

The newly promoted full professors include Lawal Oyeneyin and Michael Gbala from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Joshua Babayemi from the Department of Biosciences and Biotechnology, Edosa Uhumwangho from the Department of Biochemistry, and Adegbiji Atilade from the Department of Surgery. Additionally, Dr. Kayode Adepoju of the Department of Health Information Management was promoted from Senior Lecturer to Reader, equivalent to an associate professor.

Call to Greater Responsibility

While congratulating the scholars, Prof. Adejuyigbe urged them to view this recognition as a call to greater responsibility.
