Rotary's Free Youth Skills Training in Abeokuta, Jan 2026

In a significant move to combat unemployment and foster economic independence, Rotary International District 9111 has announced a major youth empowerment initiative in Ogun State. The district, led by its District Governor, Rtn Prince Henry Akinyele, will conduct its annual free vocational training program for young residents in Abeokuta.

Program Details and Registration

The intensive skills acquisition training is scheduled to run for two weeks, from January 12 to January 23, 2026. Sessions will be held daily between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Kuto, Abeokuta. According to Rtn Kudirat Ola-Opoola, Chairman of the Vocational Service Committee, the program is designed to provide practical, high-demand skills that promote self-reliance.

Prospective participants can register through multiple channels. Registration closes on January 8, 2026. Interested individuals are encouraged to sign up at Rotary House behind the NIPCO Petrol station on Abiola Way, at any Rotary Club within Abeokuta, or via online platforms.

Skills Offered and Post-Training Support

The training will cover a range of lucrative and contemporary skills aimed at immediate market entry. The free courses on offer include:

  • Solar panel installation and maintenance
  • Fashion design and pattern cutting
  • Professional makeup artistry
  • Fascinator and headgear making
  • Baking and pastries

Rtn Kudirat Opoola, a past President of the Rotary Club of Ewutuntun, emphasized that the program goes beyond just training. Successful graduates will receive substantial support to launch their ventures. This support includes startup grants for some and access to low-interest loans for others, significantly reducing the financial barrier to entrepreneurship.

A Commitment to Sustainable Community Upliftment

This initiative underscores Rotary District 9111's deep commitment to tangible community development. The two-week program is strategically crafted to transform lives by providing not just skills, but a clear pathway to sustainability.

Participants will also benefit from a robust mentorship network. Each graduate will receive a certificate of completion and gain access to guidance from experienced entrepreneurs, industry experts, and professionals. This holistic approach ensures that trainees are well-equipped to navigate the business landscape and contribute meaningfully to Ogun State's economic growth.

The vocational training project reaffirms the club's dedication to creating lasting change and empowering the next generation of Nigerian leaders and business owners.
