Asake Explains Why Money is Crucial for His Freedom and Problem-Solving
In a revealing new interview with independent filmmaker and podcaster Korty EO, award-winning Nigerian musician Asake has candidly discussed his relationship with money, explaining that financial resources solve approximately 80% of his problems while providing him with essential freedom.
The Freedom That Money Provides
The Afrobeats superstar, known professionally as Mr. Money, spoke in Yoruba during the interview about his appreciation for both earning and spending money. "I love the freedom money gives me. It doesn't solve all my problems, but it solves 80% of my problems," Asake stated, emphasizing how financial resources have transformed his life and career.
Asake detailed his flashy lifestyle, including his penchant for splurging on luxury vehicles and expensive jewelry. The musician revealed that despite not having lived in Nigeria for the past year, he maintains five cars in Lagos, showcasing his commitment to maintaining a luxurious presence even while abroad.
Recent Extravagant Purchases and Family Gifts
Since returning to Nigeria in December 2025, Asake has made headlines for his extravagant spending on automobiles. The singer surprised his mother with a brand new Mercedes-Benz G Wagon valued at over 500 million naira for her birthday, while gifting his father a Toyota Prado Land Cruiser worth more than 200 million naira.
Not limiting his generosity to family members, Asake also treated himself to significant purchases, acquiring a Rolls-Royce and another G Wagon worth billions of naira. These acquisitions serve as visible symbols of his superstar status within the music industry, where top artists frequently display their wealth through luxury vehicles and opulent lifestyles.
Journey from Campus Star to International Superstar
During the interview with Korty EO, Asake revisited his path to stardom, which began at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State. While studying Dramatic Arts at the institution, his budding musical career transformed him into a campus celebrity, laying the foundation for his future success.
Korty also interviewed Asake's mother, who shared that she had initially planned to send her son to the United Kingdom for his education. However, Asake insisted on studying at OAU Ife instead. She eventually relented after intervention from family friend and actor Muyideen Oladapo, popularly known as Lala, who was pursuing a degree in Dramatic Arts at OAU at the time and promised to mentor the young Asake.
Current Projects and Future Expectations
The year 2026 has started strongly for Asake, who recently released a joint project with fellow Nigerian superstar Wizkid. The four-track EP has dominated music charts and set a positive tone for the year, during which the singer is expected to release his fourth studio album.
