Ekubo passed away on Monday, May 11, at a Lagos hospital after battling liver cancer, which he had reportedly been dealing with since 2024.

He revealed that at Teddy A's wedding in Dubai, while seated at the same table, he told Ekubo that he did not have much time left on earth. In response, Ekubo asked him to shut up, cautioning him against speaking negativity into his life. Onyeka described Ekubo as a lovely guy and noted that everyone will die someday.
His tweet read: "I remember telling Alexx Ekubo in Dubai, at Teddy A’s wedding, as we were seated on the same table, that I don’t have much time on earth and he asked me to shut up. That I should not speak negativity into my life. Lovely guy. It’s okay. All of us will go."
