DJ Timi, an Abuja-born DJ now based in Wales, has released his new EP, 'Trip To Wales, Vol. 1,' a four-track project that blends Afrobeats, Amapiano, and Afrohouse while featuring collaborations with artists based in Wales and Nigerian artists living there. The EP opens with 'Croeso,' the Welsh word for welcome, setting the tone for a project that aims to bridge musical cultures.

The EP was co-produced by Abuja-based producers Sickxonds and KG, who also handled mixing and mastering. DJ Timi explains that the project is more than just a collection of songs: “I worked on this to show other artists that they can work with different sounds and cultures.” This vision is realized through collaborations with Welsh-based artists and Nigerian artists in Wales, creating a blend of musical influences.
Track-by-Track Breakdown
The opening track, 'Croeso,' features Culz Wave and samples Ramz's 'Barking,' incorporating the line “I'ma link my thing from Barking.” DJ Timi describes the song as “me welcoming whoever is listening to my world,” making it a fitting introduction. The second track, 'Run,' with Lucy Borja, is designed as a hype track with repetitive phrases like “There is no need to run” and Nigerian hype staples such as “ololololo” and “alalala.” DJ Timi wanted the track to be “cool and easy to sing and vibe to.”
'Mamacita' follows with Nelly Nonso and Big Clint, two Nigerian artists based in Wales. DJ Timi notes that the beat “needed some Nigerian sauce and vibe on it,” which the collaboration delivers. The final track, 'Fun,' features Anwar Siziba, Seraphyre, and Culz Wave. DJ Timi calls it the summer track, with its chorus “I just wanna have fun tonight” providing an upbeat finish.
DJ Timi's Journey and Career Highlights
Born Timothy Adekunle in Abuja, DJ Timi's musical journey began with drumming, singing, and dancing. He took up DJing after watching a senior student perform at school programmes. By 2019, he secured his first paid DJ booking in Garki, Abuja. A significant moment came at the 2022 Festival of Lights in Abuja, where he DJed for Blaqbonez in front of an audience estimated between 700 and 1,000 people.
His move to Wales was driven by education. After studying Building Technology at Covenant University, he enrolled in an MSc in Construction Project Management at the University of South Wales. He worked at McDonald's after moving to the UK while building his DJ career. He has performed at the O2 Indigo Arena in London for the Black Welsh Music Awards and at the Swansea Arena in front of about 2,000 people. He has also worked with Race Council Cymru, Black History Wales, and OTID Entertainments, and appeared on ITV UK. In 2025, he was nominated for DJ of the Year at the KLAT Awards.

The EP serves as a practical example of cultural fusion, with Welsh-based artists and Nigerian artists in Wales collaborating. DJ Timi emphasizes, “I had Welsh-based artists on each track, stepping out of their comfort zone to come and try something new.” Looking ahead, DJ Timi plans to release more singles, collaborate with international artists, and establish a DJ academy in Wales.
