Several Nigerian female celebrities have openly discussed their battles with fibroids, a common non-cancerous growth in the womb, according to the NHS.UK. These women have used their platforms to educate and inspire others facing similar health challenges.
1. Ini Dima-Okojie
In 2024, Nollywood actress Ini Dima-Okojie revealed her struggle with fibroids. She underwent invasive surgery to remove them, but symptoms returned three years later. Instead of another surgery, she chose a holistic approach. Recently, she announced her pregnancy, bringing hope to many women with fibroids.
2. Kemi Adetiba
Filmmaker Kemi Adetiba shared in 2025 that she might need a third surgery for fibroids. She had two unsuccessful procedures in the past.
3. Toke Makinwa
Media personality Toke Makinwa battled fibroids for seven years. In 2024, she revealed she had surgery to remove 13 fibroids. She noted that fibroids affected many women in her family, leading to irregular periods and a large belly. In August 2025, she gave birth to a baby girl.
4. Toyin Lawani
Stylist Toyin Lawani opened up in 2020 about her fibroid battle. She discovered fibroids at age 23 while pregnant with her first daughter. She considered removing her womb but changed her mind. She has had at least five surgeries in Nigeria, UK, Dubai, and USA.
5. Halima Abubakar
Actress Halima Abubakar underwent successful fibroid surgery in India in 2017. She shared pictures to encourage others and thanked fans and colleagues for their support.
Ini Dima-Okojie also shared foods she stopped eating to manage fibroids, including rice, meat, bread, caffeine, pasta, and noodles.
