A 63-year-old man has been arrested after driving his car at high speed into the gated entrance of Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s $26 million East Hampton mansion, causing substantial damage to the property. Police described the suspect as “confused” and noted that he did not appear to have targeted the celebrity couple intentionally.
Incident Details
According to police reports, the man drove “at a high rate of speed up the driveway” but failed to stop at the closed mechanical gates, resulting in “significant damage” to the gate. The incident occurred on a recent afternoon at the couple’s luxurious estate, which is valued at approximately £19 million.
Detective Sergeant Jennifer Dunne of the East Hampton Police Department told Page Six that the suspect “has no criminal history and he seemed confused at the scene and after the arrest.” She added, “He did not make any threats or mention names of the residents. It could just be a chance he picked that house if he was having a medical issue.”
Suspect’s Behavior Prior to Crash
Before crashing into the gate, the man had stopped at another house down the road, asking for a woman by name. The homeowner told him she did not live there and noted that he “seemed confused.” He then continued driving and ended up at the Beyoncé-Jay-Z residence.
Dunne confirmed that the other homeowner reported the man appeared disoriented. The suspect’s identity has not been released, and it remains unclear whether he knew the mansion belonged to the famous power couple. “There were no weapons found, no notes found, no direct threats made and no direct mention of residents of the house so we are not sure he even knew who lived in that house at this point,” Dunne stated.
Aftermath and Investigation
The unnamed man was taken to Stony Brook Hospital, where he was treated for pain. His vehicle was impounded, and police have completed criminal trespass and criminal mischief affidavits. The investigation is ongoing, but authorities have not found evidence linking the suspect to any planned attack.
It is not known whether Beyoncé and Jay-Z were home at the time of the incident. Jay-Z is currently on his “30” tour and performed in New York last week. The couple has not publicly commented on the incident.
