A Nigerian man named Honour Oriretan has disclosed that the late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo blocked him on Instagram in 2021. Honour, who mourned the actor's demise, narrated the events that led to the blocking.
Why Alexx Ekubo Blocked the Man
In a Facebook post on May 16, Honour explained that he went to Alexx's Instagram comment section to criticize the actor for frequently flaunting his then fiancée. Honour felt this behavior was unwise and could potentially harm the relationship. Unexpectedly, Alexx blocked him after this unsolicited advice.
Honour wrote: "Yes, Alex Ekubo blocked me on Instagram around January 2021, barely five years ago, when I advised him to stop flaunting his then fiancée up and down online to avoid crashing his planned marriage. The show-off was aggressively too frequent and unwise at the time, probably to provoke mockers or so, which I saw as unwise. That made me drop the advice under his comment section on IG. He found it offensive, like he saw me as a hater, and blocked the hell out of me on Instagram."
Concern Before Death
Despite being blocked, Honour revealed that on March 5, 2026, he voiced concern about Alexx's disappearance from social media. He felt something unusual about the actor and publicly expressed worry about his whereabouts. Days later, he learned that Alexx had died.
Honour wrote: "Despite this aggressive blocking, I still cried out, asking about his whereabouts on March 5, 2026, when I felt something unusual regarding him after he went silent from the internet, not seen in movies, nothing heard for years, only to read about his death on May 11, 2026, being two months after that outcry post. My advice comes from deep wisdom based on things seen ahead. Rest in peace, Alex Ekubo. Death is really wicked."
Mixed Reactions to the Post
Honour's Facebook post elicited mixed reactions from netizens. Some criticized him for speaking ill of the deceased, while others supported his perspective.
Ifeanyi Johnson commented: "When I talk now people will come and understand my post and say I don't know what I'm saying. Is this guy sensible at all? Somebody died in a painful way, instead of you to think about your own life, you are here posting rubbish. Even if you want to make money online, be creative and leave the dead alone."
Nancy Wetkos said: "But this Honour is always saying the truth. I think you have a call as a prophet, but it is yet to be discovered. It is well!"
Zulaihat Okino Oyiza remarked: "A prophetic that cannot see a way to elevate himself but sees for others. Charity begins at home."
David Olajesu Mesole accused Honour of lying: "Cooked-up stories without evidence, it's unwise you lie on this matter."
Vivian Sampson corrected the timeline: "Wedding wasn't called off May 2021, it was the end of that year, a month to the real wedding month. I believe you heard something about his health, or maybe you saw him in a hospital which made you post about his whereabouts on March."
Oforlete Oluchukwu Faith joked: "Don't worry. He will visit you to unblock you, so you guys can chat and view each other's posts. If that's what you want."
Alexx Ekubo died on May 11, 2026, at Evercare Hospital in Lagos due to complications from advanced metastatic kidney cancer. His death has prompted many to share memories and reflections on his life and career.
