Late Singer Nanyah's Father Requests Body Be Taken to Enugu for Burial After Snakebite Tragedy
A close friend of the late singer Ifunanya 'Nanyah' Nwangene has provided crucial details about the circumstances surrounding her tragic death from a snakebite. The 25-year-old artist passed away despite receiving emergency medical treatment at the Federal Medical Centre in Jabi, Abuja.
Medical Response and Final Moments
The friend, identified as @marysylvia22, clarified widespread misinformation about the singer's passing in a detailed video statement. She explained that after Nanyah was bitten by a snake, she immediately sent messages to her friends' group chat requesting prayers and informing them of the incident.
Medical intervention at the Federal Medical Centre included:
- Administration of intravenous fluids
- Antivenom treatment
- Oxygen support during convulsions
"The whole thing happened so fast," the friend recounted. "According to what they told us, they gave her a drip, they gave her the anti-venom, and then the last thing was oxygen because she was convulsing. By then, it was already late."
Father's Burial Instructions and Church Farewell
Following Nanyah's death, her father instructed that her body be transported to Enugu for burial arrangements. Before this transfer could occur, the body was first brought to Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Lugbe, Abuja, where friends, church members, and fellow choristers gathered to pay their final respects.
The friend emotionally described the scene: "She was brought to the church, our parish, Guardian Angel Catholic Church, Lugbe, Abuja, for us to bid her farewell. And we said goodbye, cried and cried."
Snake Discovery and Identification
In a chilling postscript to the tragedy, friends who returned to Nanyah's residence after the church service reportedly discovered and killed two snakes in the house. One of these was identified as a cobra, believed to be the snake responsible for the fatal bite.
The friend revealed that Nanyah had been able to identify the snake's color before her condition deteriorated: "She said it was gray, according to some of our friends that were there praying and the rest. Yes, she said it was gray."
Contrasting Accounts of Treatment Delays
Separate reports from Nanyah's sister-in-law suggest that initial treatment delays occurred when security personnel searched for the snake instead of immediately transporting her to medical facilities. According to these accounts, transportation challenges forced Nanyah to walk and run to the gate before finding a motorcycle to take her to the hospital.
The tragic incident has highlighted both the dangers of snakebites in residential areas and the emotional aftermath for families and communities when such unexpected deaths occur. The music community and Nanyah's fans continue to mourn the loss of the young singer whose promising career was cut short by this unfortunate incident.
