Doctor's Advice on Body Count Stirs Controversy
A Nigerian doctor based in Canada has ignited a heated online debate after advising a man against calling off his engagement due to his fiancée's sexual history. In a video shared on social media, Dr Zo recounted how a Nigerian man living abroad contacted him, expressing his intention to cancel his wedding after discovering his fiancée had previously slept with two other men he knew back in Nigeria. The man reportedly felt that this revelation was a blow to his ego and was considering ending the relationship.
Personal Reflection from Dr Zo
In his response, Dr Zo drew from his own experiences, stating, 'I told him, if I, Dr Zo, were a woman, I would not have been married by anybody based on my body count from my University days.' He argued that having a past does not necessarily make someone a bad partner. Instead, he suggested that individuals who have experienced life may bring valuable perspective to a marriage. 'Sometimes, you are better off getting married to people who have “gone round” a bit and have had experiences with life than those without any experience whatsoever,' he added.
Encouragement to Proceed with Marriage
Dr Zo advised the man to focus on the positive aspects of his relationship. 'If you think she is good, the mum is good to the dad, go ahead and marry her. You will be surprised how that girl will turn out to be,' he said. The doctor's comments have sparked a wide range of reactions online, with some supporting his view that past experiences do not define a person's worth in a relationship, while others argue that transparency and shared values are crucial.
The video, posted by Linda Ikeji, has garnered significant attention, with many users weighing in on the issue. The debate highlights ongoing cultural tensions around sexuality, marriage, and expectations in relationships, particularly within the Nigerian community.
