Obesere stabbed, loses ₦95m in Ondo attack

Renowned Fuji musician Abass 'Obesere' Akande has shared harrowing details of a violent ambush that left him stabbed multiple times and robbed of approximately ₦95 million in cash and valuables.

The Calculated Attack in Okitipupa

The brutal incident occurred on November 21 in Okitipupa, Ondo State, shortly after Obesere had performed at a burial ceremony. In a statement released through his media aide, Ayonla Althentic, the music star described the attack as anything but random.

"This was not just an ordinary robbery; it was a calculated attack," Obesere stated. "They knew exactly who we were and what we had. It was terrifying."

Sequence of a Nightmare

The artist recalled first noticing unfamiliar faces around 6 p.m. at the event. "They weren't dressed like part of the family—they looked like street boys," he recounted. "I welcomed them, sang for them, and they danced, completely unaware of their sinister plan."

The situation turned violent when Obesere and his team attempted to leave the venue. The assailants ambushed them, immediately demanding cash. Although Obesere complied by handing over part of the money, the attackers escalated their demands.

The thieves seized his gold necklace valued at ₦45 million and his wristwatch worth ₦25 million. The stolen bag contained ₦25 million—earnings from both a previous show and that day's performance—bringing the total loss to a staggering ₦95 million.

Violent Struggle and Injuries

Obesere revealed the physical toll of the attack, confirming he was stabbed three times during the violent confrontation. His aide, Althentic, suffered even more severe injuries while trying to protect the money.

"I tried to hold on to the bag, but eventually, they overpowered us," Althentic recounted. He sustained a dislocated shoulder and multiple knife wounds, briefly losing consciousness during the struggle. "The total loss is huge, but thankfully, we are alive."

Police Response and Public Outrage

Authorities have confirmed making progress in the case. The police stated that they have arrested three persons connected to the attack, though investigations continue.

Meanwhile, fans have flooded social media with messages of support and outrage. Many expressed shock at the brutality of the attack, while others questioned why such a large amount of cash was being transported.

Social media user Zeez Moshood Adejare commented: "The money of previous show, you carry it to the stage for new show.. In my life I never see a musician carry bag contain money to stage."

Another fan, @abatunde Asimolowo, offered sympathy: "Very very sorry Hajj Akande Obesere....May The Almighty Allah Continue To Guide and Guard You Abundantly And Always."

The entertainment community has rallied around the Fuji star, with many calling for better security measures for performers, particularly when traveling for events outside major cities.
