Popular Nigerian comedian Chukwuemeka Ejekwu, widely known as Sabinus, has publicly confirmed the end of his marriage to Ciana Chapman. The comic star made the revelation during a recent live session on TikTok, putting months of public speculation to rest.
A Peaceful Separation
Sabinus clarified that the union, which was formalised in 2023, has been dissolved. He was keen to stress that the separation happened without any major conflict. Addressing swirling rumours that suggested domestic violence or infidelity were causes, the comedian firmly denied any crisis.
"I'm not married. My marriage ended peacefully. The mum and I are good. My daughter is okay, and she is doing fine," Sabinus stated during the broadcast. He emphasized that he and his former wife maintain a cordial relationship and share a united focus on the well-being of their young daughter.
From Law School Dreams to Comedy Stardom
In a separate interview with media personality VJ Adams, Sabinus opened up about his challenging journey into comedy, which was initially opposed by his father. He revealed that his father had insisted he study law, a plan that ultimately failed after Sabinus could not secure admission into a law programme.
He later gained admission to the University of Port Harcourt to study Linguistics and Communication Studies. It was there that he discovered his comedic talent and began creating the short skits that would later define his career. Sabinus kept this new pursuit a secret from his father throughout his university years.
The truth only came out a full year after his graduation, when his father saw Sabinus's face on posters advertising comedy shows. The discovery triggered a furious reaction. "He was very furious. He fumed, 'Which comedy? Stupid business. Look at the boy I sent to become a lawyer,'" Sabinus recounted.
Gaining Family Support Through Success
The comedian's father's perspective began to change only after Sabinus started earning a substantial income from comedy and began supporting the family financially. As Sabinus's popularity skyrocketed, thanks to his widely shared social media skits that put smiles on countless faces, his father eventually gave his full blessing to the career choice.
This personal backstory highlights the significant hurdles the entertainer overcame before achieving his current status as one of Nigeria's most beloved comic figures.
