Sia Agrees to Substantial Monthly Child Support in Custody Settlement
In a significant legal development, the acclaimed singer Sia has formally agreed to pay her estranged husband, Daniel Bernad, a substantial monthly sum for the support of their young son. The agreement, which outlines detailed financial and custody arrangements, was filed in the Los Angeles County Superior Court on April 6, 2026, marking a resolution to their ongoing family matters.
Financial Commitments and Support Details
According to the court documents, Sia, aged 50, will provide $42,500 per month in child support for their son, Somersault Wonder Bernad. This financial obligation commenced on April 1, 2026, and is set to continue until the child reaches the age of 18. However, if he remains enrolled as a full-time high school student, the payments may extend until his graduation or until he turns 19, whichever occurs first.
The support arrangement includes specific conditions under which payments could cease earlier, such as in the event of the child's death, marriage, emancipation, or if a subsequent court order modifies the terms. Beyond the monthly stipend, Sia has additional responsibilities, including covering the costs of private school tuition, agreed-upon extracurricular activities, and any healthcare expenses not covered by insurance. She is also mandated to maintain health insurance for her son, ensuring his medical needs are adequately addressed.
Securing the Child's Financial Future
To safeguard the financial well-being of their son, the agreement incorporates provisions for long-term security. Sia is required to maintain a $5 million life insurance policy with her son named as the beneficiary. Alternatively, she may establish a trust fund designed to provide equivalent financial support in the event of her death before the child reaches adulthood. This measure aims to ensure that the child's future is protected, regardless of unforeseen circumstances.
Custody Arrangements and Legal Framework
The settlement also addresses custody matters, with the former couple agreeing to share joint legal custody of their son. Physical custody will follow a structured schedule that began on April 1, 2026. The arrangement specifies detailed custody times for Bernad, including specific weekdays and weekends, as well as a comprehensive division of holidays throughout the year. This structured approach is intended to provide stability and consistency for the child amidst the family's changes.
Sia welcomed her third child, and her first with Bernad, on March 27, 2024, adding a personal dimension to the legal proceedings. The resolution of these matters through a court-filed agreement reflects a commitment to prioritizing the child's welfare while navigating the complexities of their separation.
