The Olisa Metuh Initiative has made a significant donation of ten million naira to support bailable offenders and assist widows across Nigeria as part of activities marking the 60th birthday celebration of former Peoples Democratic Party National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh.
Birthday Philanthropy Replaces Traditional Celebrations
During a cheque presentation ceremony held in Abuja on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, Dr. Ikenna Ubah, representing the Initiative, revealed that the substantial contribution came from Metuh's friends, family members, and professional associates. The donation reflects Metuh's specific request that instead of placing newspaper advertisements for his birthday, resources should be directed toward charitable causes that directly benefit vulnerable members of society.
This donation represents a collective act of love, Ubah emphasized. Chief Metuh insisted that his 60th birthday should be commemorated through service to humanity rather than seeking publicity. The former PDP spokesman will officially turn 60 on November 28, 2025.
Comprehensive Week-Long Charity Programme
The N10 million support will be strategically utilized to pay fines for selected bailable offenders and provide crucial assistance to widows facing difficult circumstances. This gesture marks just the beginning of an extensive week-long series of charity activities designed to honor Metuh's milestone birthday.
The elaborate programme will commence with courtesy visits to traditional rulers in Nnewi on November 25, followed by charity visits to the Old Priests' Home, a Destitute Home, and a Motherless Babies' Home on November 26.
A major medical outreach is scheduled for November 27 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital in Nnewi. The Initiative will also donate essential materials to the Nnewi Correctional Centre while commissioning a rehabilitated borehole and a skill acquisition centre to benefit the local community.
Birthday Events Focused on Community Empowerment
Metuh's actual birthday on November 28 will feature a Holy Mass celebration, followed by the launch of a new skill acquisition programme specifically designed for youths and women. The day will also include empowerment initiatives targeting widows, traders, artisans, and elderly community members.
Additional activities planned for the birthday include distribution of food items and health aids to those in need. The week-long celebrations will conclude with a thanksgiving service at Guiding Light Assembly in Abuja on November 30.
Patricia Akor, Programmes Manager at the Legend Golden Care Foundation, expressed profound appreciation for the donation, describing it as life-changing and noting that it would make a significant impact on vulnerable people across Nigeria. She emphasized that the partnership demonstrates the powerful effect of targeted humanitarian support when channeled through appropriate organizations.
