Nigerian comedian Okey Bakassi has marked 25 years of marriage with his wife, Oghenovo Egodo-Michael, popularly known as Zizi, celebrating the milestone with a heartfelt tribute that traces their journey from a chance meeting in 1988 to a family of five.
The couple exchanged vows on September 1, 2001, in Port Harcourt, the same city where they first met and fell in love. Bakassi marked the anniversary with a video collage of memorable moments shared as a couple, accompanied by a reflective note on their relationship's evolution.
From Love Letters to Marriage Vows
In his tribute, Bakassi recounted how their relationship began with a few love letters that blossomed into friendship, before the pursuit of higher education temporarily pulled them apart. He noted that destiny eventually reunited them, leading to their wedding in Port Harcourt, supported by family and friends.
"We met in 1988, few love letters later, we became friends. The pursuit of higher education pulled us apart, but destiny brought us back together. On the 1st of September 2001, in the city where we met and fell in love (Port Harcourt), we exchanged marital vows supported by family and friends," he wrote.
Gratitude and a Look Forward
The comedian expressed gratitude for their three "lovely young adults," their good health, and the resilience that has carried them through a changing world. He emphasized that they are not chasing records or trying to prove anyone wrong, but simply living their lives and affirming that they made the right decision "in love, trust, faith and humility."
Bakassi also thanked his wife for her love, sacrifices, and support throughout their 25 years together. "Zizi, my darling wife, thanks for saying YES 25 years ago...thanks for believing, thanks for staying, thanks for helping me find direction, thanks for your sacrifices. Please, let's do another 25 years and beyond... You know me as no one does. I love you forever. Happy 25th anniversary," he wrote.
The couple's anniversary celebration highlights a relationship that has endured for a quarter-century, with Bakassi looking forward to many more years together.
