Susan Slaughter, born Susan Noelle Utermark on 1 May 1990 in Miami, Florida, is an American actress, paranormal investigator, and model. She is best known for her work on Paranormal Caught on Camera and Ghost Hunters International. As of 2026, she is 36 years old, with an estimated net worth of $3 million.
Early Life and Family Background
Susan grew up in Miami, Florida, in a household with contrasting spiritual influences. Her mother was Catholic, while her father practised Wicca. They later divorced, and her mother remarried a Buddhist man. Susan is part Nicaraguan and is fluent in Spanish, reflecting her mixed heritage.
This eclectic upbringing may explain her lifelong openness to the paranormal. She began experiencing unexplained phenomena as a child and continued throughout her teens. In a Trainwreck'd Society interview, she stated, "I was experiencing phenomena pretty regularly as a child, through my teen years, and even now as an adult."
Education and Path to Paranormal Expertise
Susan attended Design and Architecture Senior High in Miami before enrolling at Miami Dade College, where she initially studied zoology. She left to pursue theatre full-time, a decision that launched both her acting career and her paranormal television work.
Her interest in the paranormal grew from her own unexplained childhood experiences. She joined a Miami-based paranormal investigation team and later competed on Ghost Hunters Academy in 2009, winning a position on Ghost Hunters International — which she preferred for its international scope. She also openly identifies as a witch, connecting her spiritual practice directly to her investigative work. She stated on her Trainwreck'd Society interview, "You don't make jack sh*t investigating people's homes or historical sites… you were lucky to break even."
Television Career and Film Roles
Susan joined Paranormal Caught on Camera on the Travel Channel from 2019. The show features paranormal experts analysing user-submitted footage of unexplained events. Her background in ghost hunting and her credibility as a repeat television investigator made her a natural fit for the expert panel.
Her television credits include Ghost Hunters Academy (Syfy, 2009), Ghost Hunters International (Syfy / Pilgrim Films, 2010–2012), Social Medium (2015), and Paranormal Caught on Camera (Travel Channel, 2019–2020). Her film credits include Alleluia! The Devil's Carnival (2016), Ouija House (2018), Slay Belles (2018), Bliss (2019), and The Dawn (2019). Susan appeared in Ouija House alongside actress Sarah French, playing a witch, a role she secured partly because she practises witchcraft in real life. The talented actress has described her horror film roles as ranging from "a baby-sacrificing witch" to "a forensic tech," reflecting her range in the genre.
