Muslim Cleric Mourns Destiny Boy, Slams Viral Death Videos & Rumours
Cleric Condemns Sharing of Destiny Boy's Death Videos

A prominent Muslim cleric has publicly reacted to the tragic and untimely death of rising Afro-Fuji star, Destiny Boy, while issuing a strong condemnation against the circulation of graphic videos and unfounded rumours surrounding his demise.

Cleric's Emotional Plea for Respect

On Sunday, January 18, 2026, the cleric, identified as Alfa Aridunu, addressed a gathering where he mourned the passing of the young singer, whose real name was Afeez Adeshina. Aridunu revealed he received the sad news of Destiny Boy's death at the age of 22 while en route to the religious event, prompting him to lead prayers for the deceased.

In a passionate appeal captured on video, the cleric expressed deep displeasure with the actions of some social media users. He specifically criticised those who recorded and shared videos showing the singer's lifeless body online before proper burial rites were observed.

"I want to beg people, and this should be a message to social media users. There is a limit to sharing people's secrets," Aridunu stated. "When someone dies, you cover their secrets. The videos we are seeing of this boy who died, before he was even bathed, are not okay."

Condemnation of Baseless Rumours

Beyond the graphic footage, Alfa Aridunu also spoke against the spread of unverified rumours online concerning the circumstances leading to Destiny Boy's death. He urged the public to show respect for the dead and refrain from speculation.

"There should also be a limit to speaking on what we know nothing about. Did he die in your presence?" he questioned rhetorically, emphasising the need for sensitivity.

In a caption accompanying his video message, the cleric extended his condolences, writing: "AMEN. My special condolence & prayer to the family of DESTINY BOY. May his soul keep resting in perfect peace. THIS IS VERY SAD NEWS, BUT EVERY SOUL WILL SURELY TASTE DEATH."

Reports indicate that the late singer's body was transported to Abeokuta in Ogun State for burial, following the shocking news of his passing.

Public Reaction and Online Tributes

The cleric's message resonated with many Nigerians online, sparking a wave of reactions and tributes for Destiny Boy. Netizens across religious divides commended Alfa Aridunu for his stance and mourned the talented artiste.

One user, official_temitope001, commented: "Am a christian I love this alfa he's always said the truth may his soul rest in peace." Another, temmysavage18, prayed: "May Almighty allah grant him aljanah fridous."

The incident has ignited a broader conversation about ethics on social media, the respect for privacy in death, and the dangers of spreading unconfirmed information during sensitive times. The death of Destiny Boy, a promising talent in the Fuji and Afrobeats scene, is a significant loss to the Nigerian music industry.
