Davido Reveals Plans to Reclaim Music Masters Before Retirement

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has announced his intention to buy back the rights to his music catalogue from Sony Music before retiring from the music industry. The DMW label boss shared his plans during an appearance on The Long Form podcast, emphasizing the importance of artists owning their work.

Davido, who signed a record deal with Sony Music in 2016, explained that independent ownership of musical works is the most critical asset for any creative artist. He stated, 'I have a good music contract. But the most important thing is ownership. I plan to get my masters back.'

Securing His Children's Future

The father of five, including Imade, Hailey, Dawson, and twins, revealed that his primary motivation is to ensure his children's financial stability. Once he secures full ownership of his songs, he intends to distribute the rights among his family so they can earn long-term royalties after his retirement.
