The mother of popular Fuji musician Afeez Adesina, widely known as Destiny Boy, has broken her silence in an emotional video, dispelling rumours and revealing crucial details about her son's final days and the illness that plagued him. Saidat Adeshina's 10-minute statement, which has gone viral on social media, provides a mother's intimate account of the events leading to the singer's death.
Mother Dismisses Rumours, Reveals Long-Term Illness
In the heartfelt video, Saidat Adeshina directly addressed circulating claims that her son's actions led to his demise. She firmly dismissed these speculations, offering a detailed timeline instead. She revealed that Destiny Boy had been battling a serious illness for approximately two years.
The health crisis began dramatically around the time of the naming ceremony for his first child. "Just four days before the naming ceremony," she recounted, Destiny followed his father to pick up a goat from a family friend, Oba Edun. It was during this outing that the sickness first manifested. "He held his head and fell down," she said, marking the start of a long struggle.
The Name of the Sickness and the Struggle for Privacy
When pressed by the interviewer in the video, the mother identified the illness her son fought. She stated the sickness was called 'Oku Oru'. She described its severe effects, noting that when it struck, her son would behave like an epileptic person, requiring family members to hold him down for his safety.
Saidat explained the family's conscious decision to keep his condition private. "We didn't want the world to know because he is a star," she admitted, highlighting the pressure of his public persona. This secrecy, she suggested, allowed many misconceptions to flourish after his passing.
A Desperate Search for a Cure
The family embarked on an exhaustive quest for healing, exploring every avenue imaginable. Beyond their primary helper, Oba Edun, who provided initial relief using a special soap, they left no stone unturned.
"We didn't only go to Oba Edun's place. We went to church, mosque, and herbalists' houses," she lamented. Despite these efforts, which included visits to Aiyetoro, a lasting solution remained elusive. She emphasized the special bond between Destiny Boy and Oba Edun, noting the man treated him like his own child and was a source of comfort.
The Final Days and Location of Death Clarified
Saidat Adeshina provided a poignant account of her son's final days. She explained that she had been trying to reach him, growing concerned when he didn't answer her calls. Her worry turned to nightmare when she received a call informing her that Afeez had fainted at Oba Edun's compound.
She rushed there and found that Oba Edun, who had been away in Ile Ife, had just returned. Upon his return, they attempted to give Destiny Boy medication, but he refused. It was Oba Edun who then suggested taking him to the hospital. His father held him in the car for the journey.
In her most crucial clarification, the mother definitively stated where her son died, countering widespread online rumours. "My son did not die at a herbalist's house. My son did not eat poison. They took him to the hospital; that is where he died," she asserted firmly. She also addressed gossip about his possessions, stating the car he owned was bought from his savings and was not acquired through illicit means.
The grieving mother concluded by mourning the loss of her son, who would have turned 23 this year. Her testimony serves as a raw and corrective narrative, aiming to replace speculation with the painful facts as known by his closest family. The video stands as a mother's final effort to protect her son's legacy and tell his true story.
