Delivering the welcome address, Henry 'Pundit' Kufre, co-founder of Evolution Records, expressed immense joy that a long-cherished dream spanning several years had finally come to fruition. He voiced strong faith and confidence in the label's longevity, vowing that they are here to stay and determined to leave an indelible mark on the industry.
In an exclusive interview with The Guardian, Kufre described the label as a family, emphasizing that extensive planning had taken place before the official launch to ensure survival in the highly competitive music industry. 'We are well aware of our limits, and while I won't say we are here to take over, we intend to be worthy contenders,' he stated.
Divine Reo: A Fresh Talent
Commenting on the unveiled artiste, Divine Reo, Kufre acknowledged the pressures that artists in labels often face to meet expectations. He vowed that Evolution Records intends to do things differently. 'We don't want to put pressure on our artist or bully her. We just want the world to see her talent and what she can do. We don't intend to put a lot of pressure on her, but everyone can rest assured that we will go the extra mile for her,' he said.
Kufre highlighted the current scarcity of top female artists in Nigeria and expressed the label's ambition to change that. 'Not to overpromise, but Divine Reo can adapt to any type of sound, locally or internationally. She is that talented. Also, she is ready to give what the industry needs right now. Whatever she gives us is what we'll promote to the best of our abilities,' he added.
