Popular Nigerian Afro-highlife singer, Chinedu Okoli, widely known as Flavour N'abania, has addressed concerns regarding his personal life, asserting his independence and refusal to conform to conventional societal expectations. In a recent video broadcast, the artist said, “I am an explorer. I belong to the wild world. I belong to the street. Some men are domesticated, but I am not. We belong to the wild world. I cannot be caged.”
Family Life and Relationships
This statement comes amidst long-standing public curiosity regarding his family life. The singer is a father to three daughters from two high-profile relationships, both involving former beauty queens. His first daughter, Gabrielle, was born to Sandra Okagbue, a former winner of the Miss Delta Soap beauty pageant. His second daughter, Sophia, was born to Anna Banner, who was crowned the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) in 2012. Additionally, Flavour has a third daughter, Kaima, also with Sandra Okagbue. Beyond his biological children, the singer earned widespread admiration for his compassionate decision to adopt a blind young boy from Liberia named Semah G. Weifur, whom he has integrated into his family and mentored in music.
Early Life and Musical Journey
Flavour's journey to superstardom began in the church. At the age of 13, he started as a drummer for his local church choir in Enugu, where his talent was recognised, which led to an educational scholarship to study music at SoundCity Communications in 1996. By age 19, he was already performing as a professional drummer and pianist for local bands in Enugu. He officially entered the Nigerian music scene in 2005 with the release of his debut studio album, N'abania, which gained significant traction in the eastern part of the country.
Breakthrough and Success
However, his national breakthrough arrived in 2010 with his second album, Uplifted. The project, featuring hit tracks like 'Nwa Baby (Ashawo Remix)' and 'Adamma', established him as a force in the industry. Over the years, his discography has expanded significantly, including acclaimed albums such as Blessed (2012), Thankful (2014), Ijele the Traveler (2017), Flavour of Africa (2020), and his most recent project, African Royalty (2023). Renowned for his mastery of the Igbo language and his fusion of highlife with modern pop, Flavour remains one of the most decorated artistes in Nigeria.
