Mavin Records has unveiled its newest talent, singer and songwriter Lovn, whose poetic flair and unique sound are making waves in the Afrobeats scene. His breakout single, 'Sorry I'm Busy', encapsulates a hustle-focused optimism blended with airy pop melodies, marking the arrival of a distinct artistic voice.
From Ibadan Competitions to Mavin's Incubation Camp
Born Akinloye Charles, Lovn's passion for music was evident from childhood, influenced by legends like Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, and Wande Coal. He honed his craft into a smooth fusion of salsa, Afropop, and neo-Fuji. His professional journey accelerated after participating in the 2019 'Access The Stars' talent audition. He independently released his debut EP, 'This Is Lovn', in 2022, formally introducing himself to the music community.
His big break came in 2024 when Mavin Records founder Don Jazzy followed him on Instagram after seeing his song covers and freestyles. This led to the label reaching out and Lovn eventually joining their renowned incubation camp, where 'Sorry I'm Busy' was born.
Crafting the 'Sound Bender' Identity
In an exclusive chat, Lovn, fondly called the 'Sound Bender', shared insights into his artistry. The stage name 'Lovn' evolved from 'Loving Charles', a nod to being compared to singer Korede Bello and the meaning of Charles ('free man'). He had to shorten it to Lovn for Spotify due to a name conflict.
He revealed that to find his unique voice, he deliberately stopped listening to many contemporary artists. "I realised early that if I didn't own my sound, I would end up sounding like everyone else," he stated. His style is instead rooted in the indigenous classics, Fuji, and Jazz music he grew up with.
The Inspiration Behind 'Sorry I'm Busy' & Future Plans
The hit single was a product of real-life experience. "It was one of the last 20 songs I recorded at the Mavin incubation camp," Lovn explained. As friends questioned his sudden unavailability, he channeled that phase into a freestyle session with producer Buzzbrain at Don Jazzy's studio, creating the relatable anthem.
Looking ahead, Lovn is focused on his 2026 project rollout. His vision is to elevate the 'Sound Bender' brand into one of the biggest in the music industry. "I want to deepen the culture with my music... We can actually make our indigenous sound globally competitive," he affirmed. Beyond music, he remains a multifaceted creative—a fashion designer, makeup artist, and a self-proclaimed 'joy giver'.
