Popular Fuji musician Alhaji Abass Akande Obesere and his band members faced a violent attack from suspected thugs during a burial ceremony in Ondo State, leaving one band member stabbed and musical equipment destroyed.

Chaotic Scene at Government Field

The incident occurred on Friday at the Government Field in Okitipupa, Okitipupa Local Government Area, where Obesere and his band were scheduled to perform. According to eyewitness accounts, a group of known community thugs stormed the venue and launched a brutal assault on the musician and his crew.

Bosede Akinyemi, a guest who witnessed the attack, described the scene as both chaotic and disgraceful. "I was at the party. It was a very shameful act as a group of boys — known thugs in the community — caused trouble", she recounted. "They attacked Obesere and his band while they were performing. They descended on some of his boys and destroyed his musical equipment."

Violence Escalates, Panic Ensues

During the confrontation, one of Obesere's band members suffered a stabbing while attempting to defend the team from the attackers. The sudden violence created widespread panic among attendees, forcing many guests to flee the venue for their safety.

The attack not only endangered lives but also resulted in significant property damage as the thugs destroyed valuable musical equipment belonging to the famous Fuji star.

Local Government Condemns Attack

Hon. Andrew Ogunsakin, Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government Area, strongly condemned the incident, describing it as both unfortunate and unacceptable. "I received the news of the unfortunate mistreatment meted out to Alhaji Abass Akande Obesere and his team at the Government Field, Okitipupa, with deep disappointment and utmost distaste", he stated.

Ogunsakin emphasized that such violence does not reflect the community's values and promised immediate action. "This incident is unacceptable and does not reflect the values we uphold as a people", he added.

The local government chairman assured that he would personally reach out to Obesere and his team to convey regrets over the incident and investigate thoroughly to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
