Nollywood Actress Angela Okorie Tenders Public Apology to Mercy Johnson Following Legal Troubles
In a significant development within Nigeria's entertainment industry, prominent Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has issued a heartfelt public apology to her colleague and fellow actress, Mercy Johnson Okojie. This apology comes in the wake of serious legal proceedings that have captured national attention.
Background of the Legal Case and Arrest
The situation escalated dramatically on January 27, when officers from the Nigeria Police Force Cybercrime Center, based in Abuja, executed an arrest at Angela Okorie's residence in Lagos. The arrest was directly linked to allegations of cyberbullying directed at Mercy Johnson Okojie. Following her detention, Okorie was transported to Abuja where she faced formal legal proceedings.
On Wednesday, January 29, she was formally arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja. The court initially ordered her remand in Suleja Prison while the case was being processed. However, on January 30, the court granted her bail set at N5 million, which she successfully perfected on Tuesday, February 3, allowing her temporary release pending further legal developments.
Emotional Video Apology and Call for Reconciliation
In a deeply emotional video message shared across social media platforms, Angela Okorie extended a sincere apology to Mercy Johnson Okojie. The actress specifically addressed past derogatory comments she had made about Johnson and emphasized her desire for peace and reconciliation between them.
"This video is specifically for Mercy and her kids and her family," Okorie stated in her message. "I am not perfect, and I want to apologize. If it's my words, anything I've written, anytime your name pops up on social media, I am deeply sorry."
She went further to clarify her position regarding the accusations that had been circulating: "You are not a witch. You are not what people are calling you. I just want to make peace. Our kids may meet and become friends, and as mothers, we cannot stop that."
Commitment to Change and Moving Forward
Okorie made a clear statement about her stance on bullying behavior: "I do not condone bullying, and I apologize for anything I might have done or said against you, knowingly or unknowingly. This is a new beginning."
The actress revealed that she and Mercy Johnson have already engaged in direct communication since the incident. She expressed a renewed commitment to their professional relationship: "You are my friend, and I will never listen to gossip about you again. I love you, and I pray that God blesses and lifts you higher."
This public apology marks a significant moment in what has been a highly publicized conflict between two of Nollywood's most recognizable figures. The case has drawn attention to issues of online behavior, celebrity conflicts, and the legal consequences of cyberbullying within Nigeria's entertainment community.
