Veteran Actor Lere Paimo Alive and Well, Association Confirms
The Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners has officially dismissed widespread rumors claiming the death of veteran Yoruba actor Chief Olalere Osunpamo, popularly known as Lere Paimo or Baba Eda Onile Ola.
In a statement released on Saturday, November 29, the association's National Public Relations Officer, Adejonwo Oluwafemi, clarified that the actor is very much alive and in good health.
False Reports Circulated on Social Media
The death rumors began spreading rapidly across Facebook, causing concern among fans and colleagues in the Nigerian entertainment industry. According to the ANTP statement, these reports were completely fabricated by what they described as "unscrupulous individuals" attempting to mislead the public.
The actor's wife personally confirmed his well-being, putting to rest any concerns about his health status. This direct confirmation from his immediate family member adds credibility to the association's dismissal of the false reports.
Call for Responsible Information Sharing
ANTP used this opportunity to address the broader issue of misinformation spreading through social media platforms. The association emphasized the importance of verifying sensitive information before sharing, particularly when it concerns the health or death of public figures.
They stressed that such false information can cause unnecessary panic and emotional distress to family members, friends, and devoted fans of the cultural icon.
Lere Paimo remains one of Nigeria's most respected veteran actors, with a career spanning several decades in the Yoruba film industry. His contributions to Nigerian cinema and cultural preservation have earned him the status of a living legend.
