Fight Breaks Out at Alexx Ekubo’s Wake-Keep
A Nigerian man has shared a rare video capturing a fight that erupted after the body of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo arrived in his hometown. The actor passed away on May 11, 2026, after battling metastatic kidney cancer, leaving fans and colleagues in mourning.
A service of songs was held in his honor on June 10, 2026, in Lagos, and he was buried on June 18 in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State. Photos and videos from the burial have been circulating online, but a clip posted by Ammishaddai Okoli on Facebook shows a physical altercation that took place during the wake-keep.
In the video, two men are seen grappling with each other as onlookers try to intervene. Okoli captioned the post: “What really happened here at Alexx Ekubo's arrival? Rest in peace, Alexx Ekubo.”
Explanation of the Fight
In the comments, Okoli explained what allegedly caused the fight. He wrote: “I asked some questions, so I was told that the guy on black top is Alexx's cousin and he was fighting to make sure that they carry the body into the family house for the last time, which is part of tradition. He was not the one that started the whole fighting thing; it was the other man on singlet that pushed him (the young man on black) first, which led to the fight.”
The incident highlights the emotional tensions that can arise during traditional burial rites. The cousin’s insistence on following custom by bringing the body into the family home reportedly sparked the confrontation.
Alexx Ekubo’s death has been a significant loss to the Nigerian film industry, and his burial drew many mourners. The video of the fight has generated mixed reactions online, with some expressing sympathy for the family’s grief and others criticizing the disruption.
