Jennifer Mourns Junior Pope on Second Death Anniversary, Recalls Tragic Moment
Today, April 10, 2026, marks the somber second death anniversary of beloved Nollywood actor Junior Pope Odonwodo, who tragically passed away on April 10, 2024. The actor lost his life in a devastating boat accident on the Anam River in Anambra State, Nigeria, while returning from a movie location. Investigations later attributed the incident to human error, notably the absence of life jackets.
Heartbreaking Instagram Post from His Wife
In a deeply emotional Instagram post shared this morning, Jennifer, Junior Pope's wife and mother of his three sons, recounted the harrowing moment she learned of his passing. She also offered prayers for the repose of his soul, providing a raw glimpse into her grief and the events of that fateful day.
Her post reads: "This day two years ago at about some minutes past 3pm while getting dressed to go for a photoshoot, I received the most devastating call of my life... Awele, the boat JP was on just capsized. My hands immediately started shaking, but a part of me held onto the fact it was a prank."
The Tragic Scene and Denial
Jennifer described being driven to the accident scene, where she encountered a massive crowd. "I was still trying to understand what was going on, and a black Hilux drove past me with my husband lying lifeless in its trunk, wearing the same red shorts he had on when he left the house at about 10am that morning," she wrote. Her scream of "JESUSSSSS" echoed, she believes, all the way to heaven.
After he was pronounced dead, doctors checked her blood pressure, which had soared to over 210, leading to her immediate admission to the hospital. Jennifer expressed being in denial, recalling how he had asked her to warm jollof rice from the night before for his return on April 10th. "I tried so hard to cry, but my tear glands failed me," she added.
Hope and Final Goodbye
Even as visitors came, Jennifer clung to hope for his resurrection until the morning when pallbearers brought in his casket, accompanied by loud cannon sounds. "I had the goosebumps of the entire world on my arms," she shared, noting her heart palpitations and cloudy eyes as she paused her story.
In her tribute, she assured Junior Pope, "God is taking care of your children and I, and your mother as well. A lot has happened, JP. Plenty ooooooooo... unbelievable gist chokeeeeee... Ndi mmadu di wonder (in your voice). It hasn't been easy, but God has been faithful. We're holding it down here for you while we believe you're holding it down for us up there."
She concluded with, "Continue to rest peacefully in God's bosom, Swag King. We miss you sooooo much, mana ya diba!!!! Ogadinma." This poignant reflection underscores the enduring pain and love in the wake of a tragedy that shook the Nollywood community and fans worldwide.
