Popular Nollywood actor Mike Ezuruonye has publicly addressed and dismissed widespread rumours suggesting he performed a diabolical act, commonly referred to as 'Juju', during a recent event with colleague Toyin Abraham.
The Viral Video That Sparked Controversy
The controversy began after a clip from the premiere of Toyin Abraham's new movie, 'Oversabi Aunty', went viral on social media. The video, captured on Saturday, December 20, 2025, showed Mike Ezuruonye, who is a cast member in the film, dancing with Toyin Abraham. During their dance, Ezuruonye was seen tossing money around the actress's head three times before finally handing it to her.
This specific action was interpreted by some social media users as having a sinister, spiritual connotation, leading to a flurry of online speculation and accusations that the actor was involved in 'voodoo' or 'juju'. The suspicion was further fuelled when Toyin Abraham, in turn, appeared to throw a bundle of money to guest artist Segun Johnson.
Ezuruonye's Forceful Rebuttal
In a video statement released on the same day, December 20, Mike Ezuruonye firmly denied the allegations. He explained that his actions were purely celebratory and part of a popular dance move.
"Usually, I wouldn't do this; everybody knows it is not in my character," the actor began. "I wouldn't even answer this kind of nonsense. But because of this person involved, because I love this person and the family dearly, I will respond."
He clarified that he was simply performing the 'robo robo' dance and showing support for a colleague's successful movie premiere. "I was celebrating a sister, dancing with her, and touching her face with money and doing the robo robo dance and all of that. Apparently, it has turned to Juju, it has turned to voodoo. What is going on?" he questioned.
Ezuruonye advised critics to channel their energy more productively, stating, "I think if you are diabolical, that is when you think like this, because I didn't know joy and support had entered the spiritual department. Instead of overanalyzing something, channel your energy into something better."
Industry Support and Public Reaction
The actor concluded his message with a show of solidarity for Toyin Abraham, captioning his video: "Some people see joy and create useless/baseless stories. Pure Love Rules @toyin_abraham. God with you and your family always. You have my unending support."
Toyin Abraham herself responded gratefully in the comments, writing: "I love you jare and thanks for doing this for me." Other fans and colleagues also flooded the post with supportive messages, condemning the spread of baseless rumours and celebrating the unity shown at the premiere.
The 'Oversabi Aunty' premiere was a star-studded affair, also attended by notable figures like Iyabo Ojo and her family, Mercy Eke, Mercy Aigbe, and Jennifer Awele, the widow of late actor Junior Pope.
