Nollywood Actor Taye Arimoro Faces Suspension Over On-Set Altercation

The Nigerian film industry has taken decisive action against actor Taye Arimoro, suspending him indefinitely following a physical confrontation on the set of actress and filmmaker Peggy Ovire's movie. The suspension was announced on November 28, 2025, following a joint investigation by major industry guilds.

Guilds' Investigation Findings and Verdict

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN), and Association of Movie Producers (AMP) released a unified decision on November 27, 2023, after reviewing evidence from their disciplinary committees. Contrary to Arimoro's initial claims of being assaulted, the investigation concluded that Arimoro was the primary aggressor in the incident.

The joint document revealed that Arimoro had assaulted the production manager and driver on set. He was also found to have circulated a false live video that misrepresented events and unnecessarily dragged producer Peggy Ovire into the controversy. The director, production manager, and crew were cleared of any wrongdoing in the official report.

The guilds imposed several requirements for Arimoro's potential reinstatement: he must issue a public apology to the production manager, Peggy Ovire, and the director, create a corrective video detailing the actual sequence of events, complete his remaining scenes for Pieces of Love under supervised conditions, and comply with any further instructions from the guilds.

Peggy Ovire's Role and Consequences

While the investigation cleared Ovire of direct involvement in the physical altercation, the guilds noted that she responded emotionally rather than de-escalating the situation. As a result, she faces her own set of requirements, including writing official apology letters to the guilds, apologizing to the estate management, and submitting a written commitment to better personnel handling on future film sets.

Public Reaction to the Suspension

The verdict has sparked mixed reactions across social media platforms. Some Nigerians expressed strong disapproval of the suspension decision, while others supported the guilds' actions. The incident has highlighted ongoing tensions within Nollywood regarding professional conduct and conflict resolution on movie sets.

This case follows Arimoro's earlier allegations where he claimed Ovire and her crew assaulted him, deflated his tires, and blocked his exit from the set. He had shared images of mouth injuries on social media to support his claims. However, the guilds' comprehensive investigation has presented a different narrative of the events that transpired.
