Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has disclosed that he consistently gifts his wife his largest possessions, including the first ₦100 million cheque he ever earned. Speaking on The Morayo Show, the actor explained that his wife’s love language is receiving gifts, and he makes it a point to ensure she never has to ask him for anything.
RMD on gifting his wife his biggest earnings
RMD recalled the moment he received his first major cheque worth approximately ₦100 million. Instead of holding onto it, he instructed his manager to hand it directly to his wife. “The first time I had the biggest cheque in my life, like 100m, my manager had gone to pick it up, and I said, ‘Give it to my wife.’ When she got it, she was like, ‘You want me to keep it for your children?’ I said, ‘No, keep it for yourself,’” RMD said.
The actor acknowledged that much of the money would eventually benefit their children, but he deliberately chooses to give to his wife. “I know that 90% of that will end up on my children, but for me, I like to gift my wife with the biggest things I have so that way, she never has to ask for anything,” he added.
His wife's love language and public acknowledgment
RMD noted that his wife’s love language is receiving gifts, and he takes pride in her public acknowledgment of his generosity. “These days, it’s never about flowers and chocolates anymore. Ladies like money. For my wife, a trip abroad must have a shopping mall. Her love language is gifts. I think that the biggest compliment that I ever get from her is that whatever important thing she has or holds, she will tell you that my husband buys everything that I need, so I try to gift her enough,” he explained.
Son Tega's decision to pursue acting
The actor also spoke about his son, Tega, who recently decided to follow in his father’s footsteps. RMD admitted he was surprised because none of his children had previously expressed interest in acting. “He never once told me he wanted to act. It was during graduation that we were taking pictures when he told me that he wanted to act, and I’m like ‘Why didn’t you say something since?’ because none of my kids is into what I am doing,” RMD recalled.
Maintaining a youthful appearance
When asked about how he has maintained his youthful appearance over the years, RMD credited healthy eating, regular exercise, and a mindset that refuses to grow old. He shared advice from an older person: growing older should never mean allowing an old mindset to take over. This philosophy, he believes, has kept him feeling and looking young.
