Tobi Makinde Dismisses Fallout Rumors with Funke Akindele

Nollywood actor and producer, Tobi Makinde, has firmly dismissed widespread rumors of a rift between him and box office star, Funke Akindele, asserting that there is no issue between them. The speculation originated from social media users who suggested tension had arisen due to their reduced public appearances together. In a recent interview with BBC News Pidgin, Makinde clarified that these claims are unfounded and largely driven by online narratives.

Addressing Social Media Speculation

Wetin una dey see for social media, na wetin social media like to do. Dem like write their own script." He explained that online platforms often create scripts and seek individuals to fill roles, but his relationship with Akindele predates and transcends social media. "Our relationship no start from social media, and e no go end for social media," he added.

Personal Growth and Career Evolution

The actor noted that changes in personal growth and career paths can sometimes create the illusion of distance where none exists. "As person dey grow and move from one level to another, some relationships fit just look like say dem lost in transit. But no be so e be," Makinde said. He reflected on his journey in the movie industry, which began in 1998 when he was about seven years old, introduced by his father, an actor, to veteran producer Tunji Bamishigbin.

"To be honest, you no fit tell the story of Tobi Makinde without mentioning some key people. My papa gave me that name and started the journey with me. Mr Tunji Bamishigbin was there too. Madam Funke Akindele also played a major role. These people were important to my career and to the Tobi Makinde brand wey people know today," Makinde stated.

Clarifying Akindele's Absence at Wedding

Addressing why Akindele was absent during his wedding, Makinde explained that the period coincided with her busy schedule promoting a film. "So, no be really something wey I need talk too much on. That period wey I do my wedding, na around the same time she dey promote her film. She dey very busy, and we all know say she na very busy person. She takes her work so dear to heart, and e dey understandable," he added, dismissing any notion of discord.

And if I feel say there is any scene wey I want her in, I go reach out."
