Uchenna Nnanna opens up on near-fatal accident that changed her life
Uchenna Nnanna recalls near-fatal accident, reveals ordeal

Nollywood actress Uchenna Nnanna has revealed in a deeply personal interview that she spent three weeks fighting for her life in a hospital bed after a near-fatal accident in 2013. The star, who has largely kept her ordeal private until now, opened up on the WithChude podcast hosted by media personality Chude Jideonwo, in a conversation that aired on YouTube on August 1, 2026.

The Day Everything Changed

According to Nnanna, the accident happened on a Monday, and the severity of her injuries sent immediate shockwaves through the medical team that received her. She recalled that her condition was so unstable that a doctor who was on his way to perform his own CT scan stopped everything to attend to her.

"A doctor who was going for his own CT scan has to leave him on his own and come and attend to me," she said.

The actress went on to describe the frantic efforts made to revive her. Oxygen was administered, drips were connected, and an array of other procedures were carried out as medical staff fought to keep her alive.

"They had to put oxygen because I was almost going. They put oxygen trying to revive me, put drip. They were doing a whole lot. I was in the hospital for like 3 weeks. For like 3 weeks," she recounted.

Grief That Followed the Crash

Nnanna's journey did not end with her physical recovery. In the years after the accident, she lost both parents, a double blow that left her feeling completely alone. She described herself as an orphan in the interview, and revealed that her father died shortly after her white wedding—a moment she had pictured as one of the happiest of her life.

The emotional scars deepened with the loss of her sister, which placed another heavy burden on her heart. Nnanna explained that her sister's death triggered a phobia of flying that kept her grounded for years. It was only after a long and difficult process that she was able to step onto an airplane again, she said.

One of the most touching moments of the interview came when Nnanna recalled the final words she exchanged with her late mother. She described her mother as a woman of quiet but fierce faith, and said that her mother's prayers carried her through many of her darkest moments.

"My last word was, 'Mother,' 'mama, I am out, take care of me.' And she did. And she did. It's a miracle," she said.

Reflecting on the experience, Nnanna's words suggested a deep gratitude for her survival, as she referenced the miracle she believes kept her going through the ordeal.

Fans and Colleagues Send Love

The podcast episode has resonated strongly with viewers, who took to social media to share their reactions. Many expressed disbelief that the cheerful actress, often seen smiling in public, had been silently carrying such painful memories.

@Amon_Raee wrote: "That's a deep cut, people are going through a lot."

Another follower, @Collette001, commented: "Oh my goodness ? Now this is too painful. I would never have guessed that this cheerful legend has passed through such traumatic experience. Life can be so unfair ?"

The outpouring of support underscores how much Nnanna's story has touched those who have followed her career over the years.

Another Nollywood Star in Need

In a separate but equally emotional story, veteran Nollywood actress Omotunde Apinke Ogundimu has also appealed to the public for help. The actress, who is battling cervical cancer, shared her struggles during an interview, explaining that her children have exhausted all their resources while caring for her.

Ogundimu, a widow and mother of three, says she has been sidelined from the industry in her time of need. She has pleaded with colleagues and fellow Nigerians for forgiveness and mercy, hoping for financial assistance to help her cope with the severe pain of the disease.

Both stories shine a light on the personal battles that many Nollywood stars face away from the cameras, and the resilience required to keep going. The WithChude podcast, known for exploring the inner lives of public figures, has featured numerous Nigerians sharing personal testimonies of trauma, faith, and recovery.
