MFM Pastor Olukoya Clarifies 'Die by Fire' Prayer as Spiritual Declaration, Not Physical Harm
Dr Daniel Olukoya, the Founder and General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, has provided a detailed explanation regarding the widely recognized and often controversial "Die by Fire" prayer associated with the church. In a message shared on his verified Facebook page on Saturday, Olukoya emphasized that the phrase has been frequently misunderstood outside its proper spiritual context.
Spiritual Context Over Literal Interpretation
Olukoya clarified that the prayer was never intended as a literal expression of violence or a call for physical harm. Instead, he described it as a spiritual declaration aimed at forces believed to obstruct human progress and destiny. According to him, the prayer targets invisible challenges that manifest as persistent hardship, spiritual opposition, and stagnation in individuals' lives.
He explained that it is designed as a call for divine intervention against negative influences confronting people and families, seeking divine action against what he termed "evil plantations, stubborn problems, and opposing forces." Olukoya stressed that the wording aligns with biblical teachings on spiritual warfare, where believers rely on God's authority to confront affliction and oppression.
Rooted in Biblical Principles of Spiritual Warfare
"'Die by Fire' is a command for divine judgment against the works of darkness and a release of heaven's power to enforce freedom," Olukoya elaborated. He added that the prayer must be approached with spiritual understanding and personal holiness to be effective. When properly applied, he noted, it serves as a tool for deliverance and restoration, meant to break spiritual barriers and open paths to victory rather than function as a mere slogan or emotional chant.
The cleric further stated that the prayer reflects key Christian themes such as authority in Christ and triumph over adversity. He encouraged believers to engage with it through faith and discipline, highlighting its role within the ministry's prayer culture as a defining element that symbolizes an assertive approach to spiritual challenges and reliance on divine power.
Defining Element of MFM's Prayer Culture
Within the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, the "Die by Fire" prayer has remained a central and defining aspect of its prayer practices. It represents a bold stance against spiritual adversaries and a trust in God's intervention for breakthroughs. Olukoya's clarification comes amid ongoing criticism and public debate over the phrase's interpretation, aiming to provide theological grounding and context to mitigate misunderstandings.
This explanation follows earlier prophecies by Olukoya, who warned that 2026 would be a fast-paced and spiritually demanding year, urging nations and individuals to pursue righteousness to avoid disorder and calamity. He delivered this message during a crossover service at the church's Prayer City along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, reinforcing the ministry's focus on spiritual vigilance and divine authority.
