Experts Advocate Merging Physiology, AI, and Biosensors to Revolutionize Healthcare

Medical professionals have strongly emphasized the necessity of combining physiology with cutting-edge innovations such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and biosensors. They assert that this integration will significantly strengthen diagnostics, therapies, and the overall healthcare system across Nigeria. According to the experts, adopting AI in this field will enable safer and more effective plant-based treatments, leading to improved patient outcomes and a more robust medical infrastructure.

Conference Highlights Technological Transformation

The stakeholders gathered at the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) in Ondo State to deliberate on how physiology and new technologies can transform healthcare delivery. The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, highlighted that the conference underscores the university's commitment to advancing scientific research and leveraging new technologies to address critical health challenges. She noted that such initiatives are pivotal for fostering innovation and improving healthcare accessibility in the region.

Religious Leaders Raise Ethical Concerns Over AI Adoption

In a parallel development, religious leaders, operating under the Nigeria Religious Coalition on Artificial Intelligence (NRCAI), have expressed concerns about the rapid adoption of AI in the country. They are calling for urgent ethical safeguards and a reduction in dependence on advanced AI systems. This charge was made during a training program for journalists in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, which aimed to enhance media capacity to report on the coalition's stance regarding AI and its societal implications.

Very Rev. O. Kolade Fadahunsi, Director of the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN) Institute of Church and Society in Ibadan, pointed out that Nigeria's National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (NAIS) 2025 provides a framework for technological advancement but must be guided by strong ethical considerations. He explained that while the strategy outlines goals such as economic growth, social inclusion, and technological leadership, its ethical component is crucial for mitigating risks associated with emerging technologies.

Fadahunsi further noted that the current unregulated use of AI in Nigeria creates opportunities for misuse and abuse. He warned that the increasing deployment of AI tools capable of generating deep fakes and misleading content could erode public trust and exacerbate social tensions if not properly managed. This underscores the need for balanced approaches that harness AI's benefits while addressing potential ethical pitfalls.
